What you need to know about Acne Care and the use of
Makeup.
Promises, promises – you have just purchased a new acne medication that guarantees quick results in seven days
or less. But on the other hand you have to impress the world out there today by putting on your best face.
What else can you do other than stepping outside your front door wearing a full bike helmet?
Well never fear…..I’m here to help and there is something you can do.
You just need to learn a few creative acne makeup concealing tips to help you look your very best in the outside
world
However you must remember this…..beauty products only conceal acne, they do not cure it!
But you already knew that, didn’t you? Using makeup to conceal acne is not a particularly difficult task, but
there are some basic rules you should always follow for the best results.
Constructing your basic acne makeup toolkit.
Here are your three secret acne-hiding makeup weapons - a concealer, a good foundation and a finishing powder.
Make sure you stay away from the dollar store products and only use brand names you can trust.
It’s important to choose only oil-free makeup products that match your skin tone.
Oil-free is the key to success here so read the labels very carefully. You certainly don't want to aggravate any
existing acne problem by layering a fresh coat of oil on your skin that already has too much there to begin with.
Also, it is a good idea to choose a hypoallergenic brand.
Should this happen to be the first time you are using a new brand then test the makeup by applying small dabs to
a spot under your jaw to see how your skin reacts.
If you are going to have a problem you'll know within an hour or so after applying it. I can tell you there is
nothing worse than adding more blotches to an already colorful face.
What to do before you begin applying your acne makeup.
Wash your face with your normal face cleansing product and gently pat dry with a soft clean towel. Now apply
your acne medication as per the instructions and let it dry thoroughly.
Next step…..start with the concealer.
Apply the concealer in a light dabbing motion directly onto any dark blotches or red and inflamed areas that the
acne has produced on your skin. Blend the concealer in using a disposable facial sponge and use the concealer
sparingly.
You can always apply more if you need it but you don't want to layer it on too thickly. Otherwise it will look
dreadful when it dries.
Next…..apply the foundation.
This should also be applied sparingly using the same process - a light dabbing motion. Blend the foundation with
your sponge and reapply to any areas that may need a bit more.
And now the final touch for that perfect face.
Apply a light layer of the oil-free powder using a large makeup brush. This takes care of any shine the acne
concealer and foundation may have left behind. It will also give you a nice even finish with a great look.
Now that you put on a new face make sure you throw away the disposable sponges you used so as you don't transfer
yesterday's skin oil to tomorrow's clean face! As the old saying goes, “cleanliness is next to Godliness” –
especially when it comes to beating acne.
And the last thing you must do before going to bed.
Don’t go to bed without first removing all your makeup. It is a good idea to get into the habit of washing your
face thoroughly to remove your makeup as soon as you get home – then you don’t have to worry later when you might
be really tired and tempted to skip doing it.
One of the secrets to acne care is having your skin free to breathe as much as possible.
