Celebrities and Weight Loss
The Facts about Celebrity Weight Loss Endorsements
Weight loss pills, diet products and plans are always being promoted by celebrities.
This is great for the companies selling the products because fans want to be or look like a
celebrity.
If a famous sports star, actress, model or singer promotes the product, this is often simply enough
to induce people to buy it.
Celebrities and weight loss go hand in hand. It is a marketers dream.
It is the celebrity which causes the buy – not the product itself!
The problem is… once people have gone and bought the product, it quite often won’t make them look
the same as the celebrity who was used to persuade them to buy the product in the first place.
Look out for the statement “Results not typical” on weight loss packaging and
websites.
Use this as a reminder that you won’t necessarily end up looking like the celebrity!
Before you go buying a celebrity endorsed weight loss product because you are drawn in by the sexy
star, you should remember they have a completely different lifestyle to you!
The celebrity probably has someone keeping them fit and a personal stylist at the same time of
doing the program. This helps them stay motivated and look good – but quite often the claim is they look so
good because of the program.
Be wary!
Most average non-celebrity people can’t afford their own personal trainer, chef, hairdresser,
stylist, photographer and coaches. Therefore it will be a lot harder for most average people to make
themselves look as good as the celebrity.
And here is a ridiculous fact:
Some celebrities admit they don’t even use the product they are promoting! They are just
momentarily employed to do an advertisement or endorsement.
It is often celebrity mums who have given birth in recent times who are used for promotion.
They have “baby fat” to lose and a lot of people can relate to it.
It is difficult to lose weight after giving birth especially if a lot was gained whilst not having
much control over portion or food choices when pregnant.
New mothers look to famous new mothers as a role model and motivation.
But one still must remember the celebrities have lots of people to help them and lots of support -
as well as the motivation of maintaining their image throughout the world.
If you just had a baby it is likely you don’t have someone to look after your baby while you train
with a personal unaffordable coach.
You might be too tired to care about what you eat after looking after a crying baby all
night. You still have to prepare and cook meals, look after the house and look after your baby – there is no
time to spare on yourself!
BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS!
Even though celebrities may have a bit more help with their weight loss, the same basics apply to
losing weight no matter who you are which can’t go wrong.
Eat healthy food and in sensible portions, with not too much sweet or fatty food and exercising
each day. You can even involve your new born in this exercise routine such as taking your bub in the stroller
for a walk or even to the park.
WeightWatchers and Jenny Craig diets might be promoted by celebrities, but at least they are
available to everyone and are well proven to work.
