All About Waxing
The Inside Story About Waxing....
Waxing has been around as a hair-removal treatment since the times of ancient Greece, Turks and
even ancient Egyptian!
It was used in those days to help the wives of Royalty stay young and looking beautiful
forever.
Waxing is defined in the dictionary as: “A temporary hair removal process
which pulls the hair from its shaft. It takes two to eight weeks for the hair to grow back. Almost any hair on the
body can be waxed – eyebrows, bikini area, legs, arms, face, back, feet and abdomen.”
Both woman and men wax. There are many reasons for waxing such as modern
fashion, performance with bodybuilding or swimming and cosmetic reasons.
Waxes are usually made of paraffin or beeswax, with natural oils or fats mixed in along with a
specially designed resin which helps the wax stick to the skin.
There are some wax brands which include Vitamin E or other supplements so they are nicer on the
skin.
If you are planning on trying waxing for the first time, no matter what your gender is, the
first thing you have to choose is whether you want the “hot” or “cold” wax technique.
The hot wax technique begins with heating the wax to a temperature that makes the wax into a liquid
but is still not too hot for your skin. Then a thin layer of wax is spread onto the area in direction of the hair
growth.
When the wax cools, it is yanked of in the opposite direction to hair growth – pulling the hair
from their shafts as it goes. This is what I call the ouch factor!!
This cold wax technique uses strips of cloth or paper which are bought with
wax already coated on. The strips are then put on the area you are removing the hair from and rubbed in the
direction of hair growth. The strips are then pulled quickly in the opposite direction.
Hot wax usually makes more of a mess than cold wax but it is found by many to
achieve better results.
Post Waxing Skin Treatment
After waxing, just like any hair removal treatment, it is a good idea to apply a non-perfumed
moisturizer. It is best to choose one which contains Vitamin B or Aloe Vera (or both!).
These activities should always be avoided for the next twenty-four hours after waxing:
- Swimming
- Having a Spa or Hot Tub
- Sun tanning
- Wearing a perfume, aftershave or deodorant on the waxed area.
