Weight Gain and HRT

HRT and the Benefits of Exercise while Taking it.

One thing everyone can benefit from is some regular exercise and no more so than for ladies when they are on Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Engaging in a daily physical activity program will not only work on keeping your body nicely toned but has the added benefits of making you feel great with added levels of energy.

So for women facing the menopause and weight gain daily exercise is really important.

At this time most women are undergoing some major changes in their normal hormonal balance and this can very easily make you feel tired and irritable and also lead to unwanted weight gain.

This is why a daily exercise program can help put the energy back while also helping to keep weight gain at a minimum. The other important factor is your diet.

If you are taking hormone replacement therapy then you will more than likely get beneficial relief from the HRT program.

It is known though that some women report they gain weight during this time and while taking replacement hormones.

Doctors usually suggest that women find some sort of light exercise that they can take part daily to help with the changes in the body while taking HRT.

There are a number of reasons why women may put on weight during menopause.

Some feel it is because of the replacement hormones. There are many doctors and researchers who say these hormones do not cause the weight gain, but there are other underlying reasons.

In some cases it might be blamed on your reduced activity due to having less energy and this can contribute to weight gain during menopause.

Another thing, during this time, women may experience a drop in metabolism.

Decreased metabolism means that the body is not burning calories as well as it once did and as a female age they tend to burn less calories and lose more muscle mass.

As well as that, with the decreased metabolism during menopause, there may be an increase in caloric intake so if you are used to an efficient metabolism, you may not know or be sure how to adjust the calorie intake when your metabolism slows down.

So one sure way to fight weight gain during menopause is to exercise.

Not only will exercise help you lose or at least maintain your pre-menopause weight, it has many other great benefits as well.

Regular physical activity can drastically reduce stress.

Menopause is very well known for causing mood swings, irritability and depression.

A walk around the block or a quick swim can help reduce the stress you are feeling and improve your overall feeling of well being.

Exercise during menopause is also beneficial because it can help reduce the amount and the intensity of hot flashes. When you exercise, your estrogen levels increase naturally. This in turn has the effect of reducing the severity of hot flashes.

Furthermore, regular exercise will also help lessen your chances of osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is when a woman begins to lose bone density. It is a reasonably common problem for women and as they age, it can lead to quite serious problems. Exercising regularly helps increase the amount of bone mass just as walking, running and gym sessions will help strengthen the bones during this time of your life.

One more common issue women often have to face as they advance in years is that of elevated blood pressure and also including the risk of strokes and heart disease.

HRT obviously works well for a lot of women but by maintaining a regular exercise program it will help reduce all of these risks that are so prevalent during menopause.

If nothing else, just think of the added health benefits and how good you will feel.

Obviously the other thing to look at now is Diet and Hormone Replacement Therapy
